Overview The Upholsterer is responsible for upholstering beds, chairs, and related case goods furniture components in accordance with production standards, quality expectations, and safety guidelines. This position requires strong craftsmanship, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Upholstery & Assembly: Apply upholstery materials—including foam, padding, fabric, and leather—to bed frames, headboards, chairs, and seating components
Stretch, staple, tack, glue, and trim materials to achieve a clean, tight, and consistent finish
Assemble upholstered components onto wooden frames produced in the case goods plant
Inspect frames and materials for defects prior to upholstering
Follow production drawings, templates, and work orders with accuracy
Quality & Standards
Ensure all finished products meet company standards for appearance, durability, and craftsmanship
Identify and correct imperfections such as wrinkles, loose areas, or misaligned patterns
Maintain consistency across production runs
Keep workstations clean and organized while following 5S or similar lean manufacturing practices
Tools & Equipment
Safely operate staple guns, pneumatic tools, scissors, knives, glue sprayers, and other upholstery equipment
Perform basic tool maintenance and promptly report any issues
Production Workflow
Meet daily production goals while maintaining high-quality output
Collaborate effectively with frame builders, cutters, and sewing teams
Maintain an organized work area and support continuous improvement practices
Qualifications Required
Previous upholstery experience (beds, chairs, or similar furniture)
Ability to read and follow work orders, diagrams, and measurements
Strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
Ability to lift, push, and pull materials up to 50 lbs
Ability to stand for extended periods
Preferred
Experience in a case goods or residential furniture manufacturing environment
Knowledge of fabrics, foam densities, and upholstery techniques
Familiarity with lean manufacturing or production efficiency systems
