Join Brunswick County as we seek a dedicated Chief Utility Plant Operator to oversee operations at the Ocean Isle Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant, located at 6049 Yarbrough St. SW, Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina. The role involves operating and performing minor maintenance of the plant equipment and related appurtenances.

As a Chief Utility Plant Operator, you will manage the wastewater treatment process, supervise staff, and ensure compliance with environmental permits.
Responsibilities
Inspect and monitor wastewater treatment plant equipment to maintain proper effluent discharge in accordance with permit limits
Maintain quality records to meet permit limits and support long‑term equipment operations
Control mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, pumping, and chemical feed systems associated with the treatment process
Supervise operators and provide training on safety, operations, procedures, and housekeeping
Conduct or request routine laboratory analyses to verify treatment effectiveness and record results
Plan, compile quotes, and assist in the preparation of the annual budget for the facility
Qualifications and Experience Vocational/Technical school diploma with three to five years of progressively responsible experience in wastewater treatment plant operation, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Credentials:
Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
North Carolina Grade IV Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification, or commitment to obtain within a specified timeframe
North Carolina Spray Irrigation Operator Certification, or commitment to obtain within a specified timeframe
Physical Requirements Must be physically able to operate plant machinery and office equipment, operate a motor vehicle, and exert up to 110 pounds of force occasionally, up to 5 pounds frequently, or negligible force constantly. Must be able to walk, stand, stoop, bend, climb, and reach.
