Lead Ultrasound/Vascular Technologist Full‑time, day shift at Houston Methodist West Hospital. Lead the department by serving as the primary liaison among management, staff and physicians. Provide expert guidance on routine matters and resolve issues for Ultrasound/Vascular Technologist I & II roles to ensure exceptional patient care and adherence to practice standards.

Responsibilities

Organize work schedules, delegate assignments, conduct quality assurance audits and implement quality improvement activities.

Train, mentor and develop staff; provide feedback on performance and development needs.

Participate regularly in special projects; collect, analyze and report data or metrics.

Maintain optimal patient safety, quality outcomes and customer service.

Qualifications

Graduate of an approved education program for the required credential(s).

Four years’ experience as an Ultrasound Technologist (may consider three years for existing employees).

BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA); one of the following certifications:

RDMS-OB – Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer – OB/GYN (ARDMS)

RDMS-AB – Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer – Abdomen (ARDMS)

RDMS-BR – Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer – Breast (ARDMS)

ARRT-SON – Radiologic Technologist – Sonography (ARRT)

RCS – Registered Cardiac Sonographer (CCI)

Proficient in speaking, reading and writing English; communicate with patients, physicians and staff using a customer‑service focus.

Independent, sound judgment, strong computer knowledge and basic interpersonal, teamwork and leadership skills.

Essential Functions

Promote a positive work environment; lead the team to achieve optimal department results and foster collaboration with all patient‑care team members.

Orient, guide and mentor Ultrasound Technologist I & II, students and support staff to build confidence and competency; implement protocols to optimize staff performance, teamwork, patient safety and customer service.

Serve as the primary resource for staff; interface with department staff to provide feedback to management on performance and conduct; support management for improvement of employee satisfaction and protocols.

Lead problem resolution within the work unit; facilitate teamwork by coordinating department needs and responding positively to requests for assistance.

Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures (common and special US exams) and vascular ultrasound exams; assist physicians during procedures and maintain sterile technique.

Assess, identify and respond to patient needs to optimize image quality and patient experience; modify technical factors to achieve desired imaging results and recognize complications and limitations.

Follow safety standards and conduct all imaging procedures; maintain proper sterile techniques and compliance with infection control procedures.

Identify opportunities for corrective action and process improvement; report near‑misses and input errors promptly into the hospital patient safety reporting system.

Document, develop and evaluate processes and procedures; assist with implementation and education of department‑based safety initiatives.

Provide accurate and complete documentation of patient procedures; enter charges at the time service is delivered; participate in budgeting process for capital and minor equipment; reconcile invoices.

Use resources efficiently; manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasks; lead team members on effective utilization of time.

Participate in department projects and shared governance activities; actively lead and support special projects and department initiatives.

Foster a positive and constructive teaching environment; engage students and co‑workers in learning opportunities that are valuable and align with business objectives.
