Join the Dollar General team as an Assistant Store Manager at our Bel Air, MD location, supporting the Store Manager in ensuring a clean, well‑organized store with a customer‑first focus.
Responsibilities
Provide superior customer service leadership; greet and assist customers, operate cash register and scanner to itemize purchases.
Open and close the store a minimum of two days per week.
Assist Store Manager with employee scheduling, training, safety meetings, and compliance with company policies.
Manage merchandise: receive, unpack, stock, restock, rotate on shelves, and build displays.
Maintain inventory accuracy by controlling damages, markdowns, scanning, paperwork, and facility controls.
Implement and maintain planograms; ensure merchandise presentation according to established practices.
Ensure financial integrity: strict cashier accountability, key control, adherence to security practices, and cash control procedures; authorize and sign refunds, count register tills, and deposit money in bank.
Manage store operations in Store Manager's absence.
Qualifications
Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
Problem‑solving ability in a variety of situations.
Organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
Mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages.
Cash register and report generation skills.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies; cash handling procedures; cashier accountability; deposit control.
Ability to drive own vehicle to bank for deposits.
High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
One year of retail experience and six months supervisory experience preferred.
Working Conditions
Frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling; handling merchandise.
Lifting up to 40 pounds regularly, occasional lifting up to 55 pounds.
Occasional climbing with step ladder up to six feet.
Fast‑paced environment, moderate noise level.
Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions.
Providing own transportation for bank deposits and travel to other Dollar General stores.
