Position Summary The
Vessel Fitter
is responsible for fitting, aligning, and assembling pressure vessel components in accordance with engineered drawings, fabrication standards, and applicable codes. This role requires strong blueprint reading skills, precision measurement, and the ability to prepare vessels for welding that meet strict quality and safety requirements.
Responsibilities
Weld pressure vessels, shells, heads, nozzles, and attachments per WPS and fabrication drawings
Perform full-penetration, multi-pass welds meeting ASME and customer specifications
Set up and operate welding equipment including GTAW (TIG), SMAW (Stick), FCAW, and/or GMAW
Prepare materials including fit-up, beveling, cleaning, and temperature control
Interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and technical specifications
Support and pass NDE inspections (RT, UT, MT, PT); perform approved weld repairs
Maintain quality, productivity, and safety standards
Complete weld logs, travelers, and traceability documentation
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required
Must pass company administered welding skills tests
Must pass company administered measuring tape test
3+ years of fitting or heavy fabrication experience.
Proficient in Flux core Welding
Familiarity with welding carbon steel, stainless-steel, and galvanized materials
Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and teamwork.
Ability to read, write, and interpret fabrication drawings, understand work instructions, safety procedures, and production documentation in English required.
Basic understanding of welding processes
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Physical Requirements
Must be able to stand for prolonged periods (8+ hours)
Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 lbs. independently
Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and manual handling of materials required
Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
Ability to tolerate noise, heat, and dust in a manufacturing environment
Visual acuity to read measuring tools, drawings, and detect quality defects
Must pass initial and ongoing physical or occupational health screenings (e.g., lifting assessment, vision test, hearing test, etc.)
Must be able to wear required PPE, including steel-toe boots, gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection
Work Environment Manufacturing floor with exposure to moving mechanical parts, sharp materials, and moderate to loud noise. May be exposed to hot or cold environments depending on season. Work schedule may include overtime or weekend shifts as needed.
