Primary Responsibilities

Work as part of a collaborative team, supporting fellow employees and taking directions from management to achieve project goals.

Maintain a safe work environment by adhering strictly to all safety policies, guidelines, and regulations (including OSHA/MSHA standards), and properly utilizing the required tools and equipment for each task.

Report any unsafe conditions, equipment issues, or incidents immediately to management.

Assist with construction and excavation activities across a range of projects, including treatment plants, water, sewer, and storm drain systems, performing tasks like shoveling, raking, wheelbarrow use, and pipe laying.

Perform general labor duties as assigned, including digging, spreading, and leveling materials.

Signal equipment operators to aid the alignment and movement of materials safely and efficiently.

Operate small power tools such as jackhammers and, as needed, various types of heavy equipment used in utility and road projects.

Maintain constant visual and communicative contact with co‑workers—using hand signals or other means—especially during equipment operation and backing maneuvers.

Conduct basic servicing and maintenance on equipment; report more serious issues to the foreman.

Complete daily pre‑ and post‑operation inspections of equipment, documenting findings according to company policies.

Lift, carry, and hold materials, tools, and supplies as required for job duties.

Assist with the placement, movement, and removal of traffic control devices such as signs, barricades, and cones.

Perform any additional duties as assigned by supervisors to support project success.

Work Requirements

Pass a pre‑employment drug screening and criminal background check.

Work is conducted in a safety‑sensitive environment, requiring strict attention to safety protocols.

Successfully complete a pre‑employment “Fit for Work” physical examination.

Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and complete safe driver training as required.

Willingness to travel and stay away from home when assigned; includes working with a portable asphalt construction crew.

Provide necessary documentation to meet I‑9 immigration requirements.

Exhibit professionalism and courtesy in all interactions with co‑workers, supervisors, and the public.

Report to work promptly at the designated start time and maintain reliable attendance.

Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and overtime.

Strictly adhere to all safety procedures and requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times in designated areas.

Demonstrate a positive team spirit and assist others as needed to achieve overall team objectives.

Must be at least 18 years of age due to the nature of the work environment.

Education & Experience

High school diploma or GED preferred.

Previous experience with excavation equipment or in construction‑related roles is an asset.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

Frequently required to climb, balance, and perform tasks involving physical agility.

Regularly sit, climb, and use hand signals or equipment; occasionally stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, stoop, crouch, or reach above shoulder height.

Lift and move objects weighing up to 25–50 lbs as needed.

Work primarily outdoors, often in extreme weather and environmental conditions.

Comfortable working in all weather conditions; exposed to jobsite hazards such as moving machinery, high places, airborne particles, and loud environments.

Must have specific vision abilities, including close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, to operate equipment safely.
