Job Purpose The Extrusion Machine Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring extrusion equipment to ensure efficient production of high-quality products in compliance with safety and quality standards. The role requires attention to detail, adherence to established procedures, and collaboration with team members to meet production goals. The position reports to the Plant Manager, Production Manager, or Production Supervisor and is classified as an hourly role.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reviews work orders and specifications to verify that the correct equipment, properly trained personnel, packaging supplies, and raw materials are available to produce products that meet customer requirements.

Assists with equipment set‑up under the direction of the Lead Operator or designated personnel.

Operates and maintains device types such as extruder, die, tower, treater stations, in‑line bag machines, winders, post‑gusseter, folder, in‑line press, separator, and winders.

Periodically inspects finished film on production lines and takes immediate corrective action.

Assists in training team members on proper operating procedures, safety protocols, and quality standards.

Verifies materials and supplies are available and meet specifications before production begins.

Ensures accurate documentation of production data, including output, downtime, and quality checks.

Coordinates with maintenance and quality teams to resolve equipment or product issues promptly.

Maintains a clean and organized work area in compliance with safety and housekeeping standards.

Follows all safety policies and procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Education & Experience

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

2–5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in extrusion production or similar operations.

Communication and Leadership

Strong communication skills and ability to lead and train team members.

Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams.

Language & Communication

Fluent in English with strong communication and interpersonal skills; bilingual ability is a plus.

Cognitive & Problem‑Solving Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Basic math calculation skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Ability to resolve problems involving several concrete variables.

Work Schedule & Flexibility

Ability to work overtime, holidays, weekends, and 12‑hour shifts (day or night) as needed.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

Ability to stand, sit, kneel, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and crawl for extended periods multiple times per day.

Manual dexterity involving wrist action, twisting, pulling, and raising arms at or above shoulder height.

Ability to work in warm, humid, and cool climates for extended periods.

Ability to wear required PPE, including safety glasses/goggles, hearing protection, steel‑toe shoes/boots, face shield, gloves, and face mask.

Frequently lifts and packages rolls or boxes of flexible packaging from production machines, weighing between 15‑100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and depth perception.

Working Conditions This position is performed in a high‑noise production environment with variable temperatures, including potentially hot conditions, and supports a 24/7 continuous operation with 12‑hour shifts. All employees are required to adhere to established safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE at all times.
