Company Overview Mid Carolina Credit Union was chartered in 1961 as a benefit for the employees of the Dupont May Plant. Over six decades of operation, the credit union has expanded from a single employee operation to a financial institution with four offices and a charter that now includes anyone who lives, works, or attends school in Kershaw or Richland County, South Carolina.
Teller Role Responsible for accurately processing financial transactions and being an effective source of information for our members: in lobby, drive‑thru window or by telephone. Provides friendly, professional, confidential and effective assistance to members and company associates assuring a positive experience and minimizing wait time.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Demonstrate efficiency with financial transactions for checking and savings accounts; receive funds, post transactions, and pay out funds as requested. Verbally confirm intended transactions with members to assure needs are met and minimize redoing.
Receive loan payments and savings deposits from members, address inquiries on accounts, record amounts and dates of payments and other significant information, check member calculations, validate checks, and count cash payments.
Cross‑sell and explain services offered by the Credit Union. Respond to members' questions, problems and complaints, and/or direct them to the proper department for assistance. Research, troubleshoot and resolve customer and internal inquiries regarding policies, practices and products.
Create and maintain a clean, neat, pleasant work environment by maintaining a professional look (i.e. dress, posture, attitude, etc.), positive outlook and behavior toward members and co‑workers. Represent the credit union in a courteous and professional manner.
Balance cash drawer daily to assure accuracy in transactions and notify the supervisor regarding any outages, appropriately applying policies.
Assist members and/or other departments and branches with transactions as needed, provide support for the department and branch managers in fulfilling member requests.
Knowledge and Skills
Experience:
Cash handling and member service experience strongly preferred. Requires intermediate mathematical skills (calculations and concepts involving decimals, percentages, fractions, etc.).
Education / Certifications / Licenses:
High school degree or GED required. Up to 6 months of similar or related experience, including preparatory experience.
Interpersonal Skills:
Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential. Work involves personal contact with others inside and/or outside the credit union regarding routine matters.
Other Skills:
Knowledge of credit union products, services, and policies preferred.
Physical Requirements Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and regularly lift a cash box of up to 10 lbs and coin bags up to 30 lbs on occasion. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in emergencies. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must perform work on computer for an average of 6‑8 hours per day, when necessary. Must work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must maintain regular, reliable and timely attendance.
Working Conditions Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in a climate‑controlled shared area with minimal noise.
Mental And/Or Emotional Requirements Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively alone or as part of a team. Must read and carry out written and oral instructions. Must speak clearly and deliver information logically and understandably. Must use basic math skills and spell accurately up to a high school graduate level. Must remain calm and professional with diverse personalities and culture at various organizational levels. Must handle high‑stress deadlines and fast pace while maintaining accuracy and quality. Must handle multiple simultaneous priorities and high discretion on internal and external confidential matters.
