Physical Requirements
The physical requirements of this position include a considerable amount of physical work lifting up to 50 pounds; lifting supplies/instruments; intermittent physical mobility/activity including walking, standing, sitting, light lifting, pulling or pushing carts, equipment, etc.; ability to bend at the waist and kneel; exposure to sharps, instruments, equipment, x-ray, blood and body fluids, odors, infections, and some hazardous chemicals.
Shift
Day, evening/night or weekend shifts with some on-call, along with holiday and/or weekend requirements.
Job Summary
UK Healthcare is seeking a Central Sterile Tech to operate as a key member of the hospital team, assisting front-line workers during complex cases and cases with high acuity.
Assemble and process surgical instrument trays; decontaminate used instruments to prevent infections and maintain supplies.
Answer unit phone calls, respond to OR requests, and maintain cleanliness of the department/workstation.
Qualifications
Knowledge of regulatory standards for universal precautions and sterilization methodologies.
Knowledge of regulatory standards for biological monitoring.
Preferred CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) certification.
Notes on Certification and Pay
Applicants with CRCST certification are eligible for a Certified/UKHC position (grade 7, $17.50/hour – $27.31/hour).
If not certified at time of hire, eligibility to receive a pay increase and move to the Certified, grade 7 role after certification and 90 days of employment.
All pay rates based on candidate’s experience; certification required for all new hires within 18 months of hire date.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Basic knowledge of aseptic techniques following universal precautions.
Knowledge of operating room instrumentation, processing technique, and equipment care.
Ability to read and follow manufacturer guidelines and UK Healthcare policies.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? Yes
Preferred Education/Experience
Central sterile experience preferred; current CRCST certification highly preferred.
