Fiber Splicer – Hotwire Communications Ltd
The Fiber Splicer is responsible for the installation of new cable lines, both underground and on utility poles, and performs maintenance on existing cables, including evaluation tests and repairs. Responsibilities
Prep and splice fiber optic cables, locate problem areas, and perform repairs as needed; proficiency with fusion splicer and fiber test equipment required. Install and maintain transmission and reception equipment for FTTH network. Install and maintain network systems for private lines and determine solutions for any service issues. Initiate test and turn‑up procedures with System Engineers in accordance with company compliance standards. Collect and interpret engineering documentation, including schematics, fiber management systems, and performance OTDR reports. Support field maintenance teams—IT, regional engineering, and other departments related to fiber network. Provide demand and preventive maintenance for fiber network & FTTH. Maintain proper network documentation on changes and upgrades. Troubleshoot MDF/headend issues with 3rd‑party providers. Work within the engineering team to ensure all connections meet required specifications. Work on an on‑call schedule rotation as required. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or recognized equivalent. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Active, clean, non‑restrictive, state‑issued driver’s license in the state of hire. At least 3 years of hands‑on/field experience in fiber splicing, test equipment, and restoration. Demonstrated proficiency using a fusion splicing machine. Understanding of broadband communication theories, fiber optics, and Metro Ethernet networks. Ability to use advanced test equipment such as OTDRs, optical power meters, and other fiber testing equipment. SCTE certification is a plus. Ability to work days, weekends, evenings, holidays, and participate in on‑call rotation as needed. Benefits
