What You’ll Do
Maintain state highway systems: filling roadway joints and cracks, patching potholes, flagging and directing traffic, setting up signs, cones, arrow boards, and other traffic control devices, loading, unloading, spreading, and hauling materials.
Maintain, clean, and repair state highway facilities: repairing and replacing road signs and guardrails, cleaning curbs and gutters, painting buildings and equipment, and servicing equipment and machinery.
Operate vehicles and equipment: transport employees, equipment, and materials, warn oncoming traffic, plow snow, spread ice control materials, mow right of way, operate auger, trencher, backhoe, forklift, and various trucks.
Repair bridge decks, clean bridge bents/caps, and install signs—including structural signs, inspect truss signs, pour concrete footings, weld and cut steel sign posts, and maintain breakaway/overlay signs.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED/HiSET.
Valid Driver’s License.
Passing grade on the written portion of the commercial driver’s license (CDL) exam and must pass the driving portion with tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions (Class B), and interstate status within 60 days of hire.
Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical‑physical examination.
Special Working Conditions
Requires significant physical stamina and endurance.
Outdoor work with exposure to physical hazards and adverse environmental characteristics.
Might require overtime, nighttime work, and operation of vehicles for snow/ice control.
