The Video Production Technician supports the production, recording, and streaming of meetings and events by operating video and audio equipment, creating graphics, and editing video content. This role provides technical support for public meetings and special productions, ensures proper equipment maintenance, and collaborates with the Video Production Manager to deliver high‑quality video productions.
The hiring salary for this position is $45,510 annually ; full salary range for this position is $45,510 - $78,354
Responsibilities
Operate Video Production Equipment: Manage the operation of cameras, microphones, graphics generator, captioning software, recording/streaming systems, and other equipment and software to produce high‑quality video content.
Meeting Room Support: Provide technical support for the Commissioners of St. Mary’s County (CSMC) and Potomac Building meeting room 14, including guiding users on equipment use and troubleshooting technical issues.
AV Equipment Setup and Operation: Safely transport, set up and operate audio‑visual equipment for meetings, events, and special productions, ensuring seamless functionality.
Video Shooting and Editing: Capture video footage and edit it into cohesive, high‑quality productions that meet organizational standards.
Equipment Maintenance: Organize, maintain, and recommend updates or replacements for video and audio equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Technical Support and Solutions: Analyze, troubleshoot, research, and implement solutions to technical issues, while recommending process improvements for increased efficiency. Liaise with the Information Technology Department on technical issues and potential/proposed solutions.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Video Media Producer and/or Communications Director on projects to meet departmental objectives.
Qualifications
Ability to gain working knowledge of St. Mary’s County Government policies and procedures.
Knowledge of audio‑visual production techniques and equipment, including cameras, microphones, recording, streaming, and captioning systems.
Ability to troubleshoot and perform routine maintenance on video, audio, and streaming equipment.
Strong technical problem‑solving skills with the ability to analyze issues and implement solutions.
Effective organizational skills to manage equipment inventory, maintain schedules, and prioritize tasks.
Capacity to work independently and collaboratively with various Departments and staff.
Attention to detail and commitment to producing high‑quality video and audio content.
Experience Requirements
Two years of related work experience; or
Equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience.
Physical and Environmental Conditions Work requires light physical effort in the handling of materials, boxes, tools, or equipment in non‑strenuous work positions up to 30 pounds and/or continual standing or walking 60% or more of the time. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of traffic signals, and/or working in moderate outdoor weather conditions.
