The City of Westminster is recruiting for a temporary, entry-level, full-time, benefited Apprentice to participate in a comprehensive apprenticeship program that may last up to three (3) years in our Public Works and Utilities department. On-the-job and classroom training will support your success. The Water Field workgroup operates and maintains approximately 540 miles of Water Distribution piping system including hydrants, valves, pumps, meters and other appurtenances. The Wastewater Field workgroup operates and maintains approximately 400 miles of Wastewater piping system including manholes, pumps, diversion structures and other appurtenances. The Apprentice will accompany and assist Certified Water Professionals in the maintenance, repair and replacement of pipes, pumps, valves, hydrants, manholes, PRVs, storage tanks and related infrastructure. Overtime, weekend duty, and on-call emergency work (such as snow removal, water breaks, and sewer backups) are mandatory. Respond within 30 minutes when on-call. This is a safety-sensitive position with operating hours Monday – Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. On-call assignments are mandatory. Position Details

This is a full-time, benefited, temporary position lasting up to three (3) years. The current hiring range is $20.21 to $22.29 per hour, with starting pay dependent on qualifications and experience. The City of Westminster offers a Multilingual Stipend Program for benefited employees who are fluent in languages other than English, with a bi-weekly stipend based on proficiency and usage. Perform maintenance on water distribution or wastewater collection systems, 10-hour days, Monday-Thursday. On-call assignments are mandatory. Install new water and wastewater mains; repair mains and participate in on-call for emergency maintenance Inspect manholes for safety, quality, and maintenance Use tools and materials to stop I&I in manholes Work as part of a team to repair defects in the system Utilize required personal protective equipment and safety apparatus Operate light and heavy construction equipment including dump trucks, utility trucks, high-pressure sewer cleaning equipment, potholing equipment, backhoes, skid steers, air compressors, jackhammers, power or hand tools, confined space equipment, CCTV equipment, and other equipment as required Regularly use similar equipment as required Maintain regular and punctual attendance Other Duties and Responsibilities

May be required to work with other crews and divisions, including snow removal The incumbent is accountable for all duties of this job; additional duties may be assigned at the City’s discretion Education, Experience, Skills, and Licenses

Required: Graduation from high school or GED Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record Safety-sensitive positions are subject to random drug and alcohol testing Must obtain a Class 1 Colorado Distribution or Wastewater Collection certification within 12 months, with potential advancement to Class 2 within two years Must obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver License with tanker endorsement within 90 days (training and testing provided by the City) Aptitude and desire to pursue a career in construction/labor trades and become a certified water operator (Colorado) Preferred: Experience in construction, equipment operation, manual labor, and/or skilled trades Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook CPR/first aid knowledge Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Physical Requirements

This position is physical in nature and requires the ability to: Frequent sitting while driving and standing/walking on uneven terrain Frequent crouching, bending, twisting; climbing equipment and ladders in confined spaces Grasping, reaching; fine motor skills for tools Near/far vision and hearing for duties and office tasks Occasional lifting up to 100 pounds; occasional lifting up to 80 pounds; occasional lifting up to 40 pounds; occasional carrying or pulling up to 100 pounds Working Conditions

Work is outdoors and indoors with exposure to extreme temperatures. Maintenance occurs on busy city streets with noise and traffic. The work is very physical and involves exertion in extreme conditions and confined spaces. Pre-Employment Requirements
