Job Overview
As a Facilities Maintenance Technician II at Caterpillar, you will bring your expertise to ensure the reliability and efficiency of our facilities' equipment. You’ll be responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing complex equipment, performing preventive maintenance, and supporting continuous improvement projects. You’ll work independently on more challenging issues such as HVAC, plumbing and chillers while collaborating with other departments to optimize system performance. This mid‑level role offers a great opportunity for growth and impact.
Responsibilities
Perform preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on facilities equipment, in accordance with work orders and technical documentation.
Respond to operational calls for troubleshooting/diagnosing problems with equipment.
Operate, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and mechanical assemblies.
Exercise knowledge of industrial electricity, including single‑phase and three‑phase power, motors, protective devices, and photo sensors.
Respond to service requests with little or no supervision and without interrupting production operations.
Provide professional development and on‑the‑job training to level 1 maintenance technicians.
Work as a contributing member of the maintenance team to provide the best service and maximize uptime of the production facilities.
Monitor maintenance upkeep checklists to ensure efficient equipment operation.
Complete work order processes documentation for complete work history and parts inventory tracking.
Submit and assist with the creation and resolution of Continuous Improvement Cards.
Document and correct safety issues to maintain a safe work environment.
Work cooperatively as a team with engineering, operations, logistics, janitorial, quality, and environmental health and safety departments.
Qualifications
Minimum of 3 years of work experience in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility equipment in a manufacturing or operations environment or possess a relevant certification or degree in lieu of experience.
Intermediate experience using hand tools, power tools, and basic maintenance tasks such as lubrication, cleaning, and inspections.
Intermediate mechanical knowledge of basic machines (pulleys, levers, etc.), pneumatics, hydraulics, gears, reducers, bearings, lubrication theory, drive components (sheaves, sprockets, chain belts, take‑ups), and equipment alignment.
Familiarity with electronics such as photo sensors, PLCs, remote I/Os, servo drives, and variable frequency drives.
Top Candidate Traits
Experience working in a team environment and willingness to train/mentor less experienced technicians.
Preferred experience and/or certification in HVAC and/or Plumbing.
Intermediate knowledge with AC/DC theory, relays, switches, solenoids, fuses, breakers, power generation and distribution (including 480 V 3‑phase), electrical safety, lockout/tagout procedures, National Electrical Code, digital multimeter operation, and motor theory and protection.
Intermediate knowledge of basic machines, equipment alignment, and PM procedures.
Knowledge of production facility systems, including conveyors, robotic equipment, and AGVs.
Ability to read and understand mechanical and building blueprints as well as electrical schematics.
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.
Ability to perform repetitive operations.
Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.

1st Shift: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM. Overtime as required.
