Overview
Health Facilities Surveyor – State of South Dakota, Department of Health - Division of Licensure and Accreditation. Location: Pierre or Rapid City, SD. Salary: $26.61-$31.31 hourly, depending on qualifications. Pay Grade: I. Closing Date: 1/20/26. This is a full-time position. This position involves travel, a daily per diem, and the use of a state vehicle while conducting surveys. Working from home is possible up to 3 days a week (while not on survey) after a 6-month probationary period, subject to position requirements. The Health Facilities Surveyor is responsible for surveying patient activities, dietary, infection control, resident rights, and the physical environment to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations for the protection of health and safety hazards. Survey work includes participating in pre-survey planning, conducting inspections, and reporting findings. The role requires travel, including overnight stays, and may involve working in a state vehicle; per diem is provided. Licenses and Certifications
The candidate must be licensed related to their professional role, if applicable. Training for the survey process includes online Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) courses and precepted surveys in licensed healthcare facilities. The Ideal Candidate Will Have
Experience working in a health care facility/service. Understanding of standards of quality care. Ability to learn and clearly convey information to others, check for understanding, and develop self to expand knowledge, apply it, and share with others. Knowledge Of
Principles and practices of the disciplines providing services to patients and residents in health care facilities; Medical terminology; The causes and control of diseases produced by unsanitary conditions. Skill To
Exercise sound judgment and make timely, well-informed decisions. Set goals and put forth the effort required to achieve them. Conduct work in an honest, ethical, responsible, and committed manner. Plan ahead, set priorities, and work in an orderly manner. Build, maintain, and strengthen relationships with others who can provide support. Work cooperatively with coworkers and treat them with respect. Review and assess effectiveness or compliance of multidisciplinary care interventions and progress towards outcomes of care; revise plans or identify corrective measures for compliance or to prevent disease spread. Provide technical assistance and information contributing to broader healthcare solutions. Conduct or review ongoing psychosocial, physical, and/or functional nursing assessments to determine a plan of action/intervention. Assess care delivery processes to promote desired outcomes. Review records, practices, and/or operations to assess quality of care and ensure inter-disciplinary communication for continuity of care. Provide orientation and mentorship to junior colleagues, interns, and/or students to develop quality practitioners. Ability To
