Job Description Location:
Billings, MT
The Carpenter will build, erect, install and repair forms, structures and other fixtures made from wood, metal and other materials as needed to assist with the various types of construction projects. These tasks will be performed on residential and commercial construction projects. The Carpenter works directly for the Foreman or Superintendent. Travel out of town during the work week may be required depending on work site location.
Qualifications and Required Skills
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Ability to communicate and follow instructions in English
Ability to read, write and do basic math
Must provide own basic tools
Good physical condition and endurance
Previous construction experience is required
Knowledge of framing with wood or metal is required
Ability to read and understand blueprints or building plans
Completion of a two-year carpentry program through a trade school and/or accredited carpenter’s apprenticeship program is desired
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical
Essential Job Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
Shows up to work on time for the required shift at the assigned job site
Receives and follows all instructions from Lead Carpenters, Foremen and Superintendents
Keeps all tools clean and in working condition
Helps maintain a clean job site by conducting housekeeping (cleaning trash, removing debris, sweeping, etc.)
Conducts demolition of structures
Loads, unloads and moves building materials
Uses various hand and power tools to securely build assigned projects
Installs windows, doors and weather protection materials
Assembles and installs fixtures and fittings such as door handles, locks, hinges and closers
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
Mentors and trains Laborers and Carpenter Assistants
Once certified, may use a telehandler forklift or skidsteer to complete tasks
Use a company vehicle to pick up or deliver materials
Any other tasks provided by Foremen, Safety Personnel or Superintendents
Working Conditions and Physical Demands This position is extremely strenuous. Applicants must be able to lift and carry heavy objects. Applicants must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Activities will include climbing ladders or scaffolding, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling and standing for long periods of time. Applicants must have excellent manual dexterity of the fingers, hands and arms. Applicants must also have full mobility of the neck, back, arms and legs. Applicants must be able to see clearly and recognize small details.
