Overview This position is located on the Island of Oahu. Final duty locations are Schofield Barracks or Aliamanu Military Reservation. MANDATORY Lifeguard Certification Training on March 16 - 20, 2026, is located at Richardson Pool, in Schofield Barracks. Upon completion of mandatory certifications, the incumbent will be placed in a Lifeguard position at either Richardson Pool (Schofield Barracks) OR Aliamanu Military Reservation (AMR), to be determined based on organizational needs.

Responsibilities

This is a training position for a certified Lifeguard. Works under close supervision wherein the work is closely reviewed/monitored and detailed guidance provided.

Must participate in all required training (emergency rescue drills, emergency action plan simulations). Mandatory certifications must be complete within 30 calendar days of employment.

Upon completion of mandatory certifications, the incumbent will be noncompetitively reassigned to Recreation Aid (Lifeguard, PD #3206), responsible for lifeguarding guests in attendance at an assigned aquatic facility.

Training: Lifeguarding and First Aid; American Red Cross CPR for the Professional; CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED or equivalent (American Heart Association CPR/AED); First Aid.

For facilities that use Oxygen Administration bottles, the Oxygen Administration certification (American Red Cross Oxygen Administration or installation offered training, e.g., Fire Dept.) must be obtained within two weeks of reporting for duty.

Qualifications

Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required.

Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.

A one-year probationary period may be required.

Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.

Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2 to include a Tier 1 background investigation.

In addition, the incumbent may be subject to additional background checks if required to have regular and recurring contact with children.

Must have current health assessment that documents good physical health, and free from communicable disease IAW current Army Policy.

Be able to obtain within 30 days and maintain the following certifications: Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR/AED from a nationally recognized agency. All required certifications must obtained within specified time and kept current.

Continuous exposure to sun and prolonged periods of high temperature and humidity. In case of exposure to infectious disease, incumbent is required to obtain the Hepatitis B vaccination series within a 24-hour period.

Lifeguard must have good vision (based upon an acceptable standard of 20/40 vision or better, either corrected (with glasses or contacts) or uncorrected) is necessary while on duty to effectively recognize all emergencies, incidents and rule breaking.

Incumbent is required to follow environmental safeguards and wear personal protective equipment.

May be assigned to irregular duties or when needed for special recreational events and related requirements. Work hours may involve weekend, weekdays, holidays and night duty.

Fifteen (15) year old lifeguard trainees must comply with the restriction of the DOL Child Labor Law (Jan 17, 2006).
