Position Summary:
The Psychiatric Technician (Safety) provides basic general nursing and behavioral and psychiatric nursing care to patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse, supports daily health care operations, and communicates effectively with patients and the care team. The role is supervised by a Supervising Registered Nurse II/III, Correctional Facility Unit Supervisor (Safety), or Senior Psychiatric Technician (Safety).
Job Description and Duties:
Under the supervision of the appropriate RN or supervisory officer, the Psychiatric Technician (Safety) shall organize and provide nursing care to patients, ensuring timely delivery of appropriate health care in accordance with policies and procedures. Responsibilities include: monitoring patients’ health status, administering medications and treatments as authorized, assisting with daily activities, evaluating patient needs, collaborating with the health care team, and supporting efficient use of health care resources.
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid license to practice as a Psychiatric Technician issued by the BVNPTE (or within four months of completing the BVNPTE curriculum, provided the license is obtained prior to appointment).
Registration or eligibility for the California Psychiatric Technician licensure program (must pass the CalCareers exam).
