About the role Public Works Maintenance Workers are responsible for maintaining and repairing the City’s water distribution and wastewater collection systems. The work includes preparing job sites, operating tools and equipment, and carrying out water main repairs, sewer line maintenance, and meter work under the direction of crew leaders.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and secure job sites, setting up traffic control devices.
Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and trucks.
Apply safety practices and personal protective equipment.
Drive to work locations as assigned.
Assist with water main repairs, sewer line maintenance, and water meter work.
Operate utilities equipment such as jet trucks, vacuum trucks, CCTV, breakers, backhoes, excavators, and loaders.
Follow crew leader guidance for trench shoring and confined space work.
Respond to citizen concerns and complaints.
Train other Maintenance Workers on field work and safety (III only).
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
One year of maintenance or construction experience (two years required for III).
Valid driver’s license: Class C for II; Class B commercial for III.
Knowledge of safety practices, hand and power tools, equipment maintenance, traffic control.
Skilled in communication, light equipment operation, routine construction, basic math and measurements.
Ability to lift 75 pounds and work in confined spaces.
Experience with iPad and cloud‑based asset management system (III).
Salary Hourly rate ranges by classification: Public Works Maintenance Worker I: $18.81 – $22.57 Public Works Maintenance Worker II: $19.75 – $23.70 Public Works Maintenance Worker III: $20.74 – $24.89
