Responsibilities

Provide technical support to Utility Billing department staff to ensure effective and efficient operations.

Perform data entry related to payments received and customer accounts, including opening, closing and transferring accounts and performing adjustments.

Research utility account transactions to respond to customer inquiries concerning billings, payments, fees, adjustments, disconnects, re‑reads and consumption issues.

Enter financial debits and credit data into appropriate specialized utility computer systems.

Communicate daily with Meter Readers and water plant personnel to carry out various functions in office and in the field.

Process monthly nonpayment service disconnections and reconnections.

Administer department purchase orders and payments, place supply orders, monitor inventory control and equipment maintenance.

Assist staff with a variety of technical and administrative duties, including researching and compiling data, preparing reports and correspondence, maintaining office supplies and equipment inventory, scheduling meetings and calendars, maintaining computer record‑keeping, assisting with budget tracking, establishing filing systems, making travel arrangements, and processing daily mail.

Train and review work for utility billing department staff and other departments as needed to ensure effective and efficient office operations.

Type, copy, file and mail various routine and confidential letters of correspondence, reports, specifications, and official documents.

Receive, log, distribute and track projects and/or funding as directed.

Develop and prepare spreadsheets.

Perform computer data entry to record and retrieve information.

Oversee the use and maintenance of office equipment.

Assist with special projects as needed.

Act as the interim Utility Billing supervisor when needed.

Answer telephone for accurate information, forward calls as appropriate, greet office visitors, and perform customer/public service duties as required.

Perform routine clerical duties such as copying and filing documents, ordering office supplies, receiving deliveries, running errands, faxing or e‑mailing information.

Perform related duties as required.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent with three years of related experience (customer service, data entry, billing, bookkeeping, etc.).

Equivalents of training and experience that provide the required skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.

Valid Florida driver’s license.

Category B qualification for emergency management; may need to be onsite/available during emergencies.
