Unit Secretary- Emergency Services Casual Job Summary:
The Unit Secretary handles the administrative duties within the department and performs clerical duties to maintain an organized healthcare environment and allow medical staff to focus on patient care. He or she also maintains a line of communication between the patient and clinical staff.
Essential Functions:
Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives.
Communicates with the clinical staff to ensure all appropriate patient information is gathered.
Answers phones, makes copies, and maintains office supplies.
Handles patient inquiries promptly and appropriately.
Communicates with all departments needs of ED patients.
Assist providers in reaching on-call specialists and primary care providers.
Prepares transfer paperwork.
Communicates transfer needs to receiving facility and EMS agency.
Minimum Qualifications : 18 years of age . One (1) year related experience or a commensurate combination of education and experience. Completion of Handle with Care Verbal De-escalation training completed within 90 days of hire and annual re-certification.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities : Must possess interpersonal skills sufficient to deal effectively and courteously with a diverse group of patients, doctors, internal callers, and other healthcare personnel, while maintaining strict medical ethics. Must possess the ability to understand oral and written directions. Medical terminology and secretarial experience are preferable. Working knowledge of English grammar.
Working Conditions : Must work in a busy office and public environment while maintaining a friendly demeanor during all interactions with diverse populations of physicians, nurses, patient family members, etc. Potential exposure to blood/body fluids and contagious disease.
Physical Requirements : Constantly see/visual acuity, handle/grasp/feel, bend/twist, stoop/kneel/crouch, talk/hear, lift/carry 1 to 25 lbs. Frequently stand, sit, walk, reach, push/pull.
