Job Summary: The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for Peer Math/Science Tutors for the Oconee campus. The Peer Math/Science Tutor is responsible for tutoring students in university-level undergraduate academic math and science courses and assisting students, faculty, and staff with all services provided by UNG tutoring centers.

Responsibilities

Deliver tutoring sessions to students in math and science courses.

Integrate study and learning strategies to promote independent learning.

Complete the required 10‑hour tutor training in addition to at least 25 hours of actual tutoring time, in accordance with College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certification requirements.

Maintain required documentation, including client report forms as instructed by supervisor.

Stay knowledgeable of campus resources and make appropriate referrals; inform supervisor of such referrals.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Tutoring Services Director, Assistant Directors, or Coordinator.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with students.

Competency in subject matter with the ability to explain component parts concisely but clearly.

Friendly, personable, and empathetic toward fellow students.

Ability to present information effectively and respond to questions from students, faculty, staff, and the general public.

Required Qualifications

Must be enrolled at the University of North Georgia in a minimum of six (6) credit hours to qualify as a student worker.

Must have a recommendation from a professor in a course taken at the University of North Georgia; an email will suffice.

Must have an A or B in prospective courses tutor wishes to cover.

Must maintain a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in taking an online or hybrid course.

Tutoring or mentoring experience.
