Overview As a Unit Secretary, you’re the heart of patient care as you organize and manage supportive clerical services and communication for your unit. You coordinate administrative tasks and create a welcoming environment for patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities
Ensures a safe environment for patients and others while performing priority technical procedures safely and legally.
Transcribes orders and maintains patient charts while fulfilling receptionist and clerical duties.
Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to improve patient care and ensure orderly unit operation.
Demonstrates care and concern for customers, adhering to HIPAA guidelines and seeking assistance when needed.
Utilizes effective interpersonal communication strategies to achieve desirable outcomes and perceptions of satisfaction.
Enters supply rooms on nursing units as required for job functions, refraining from manipulating intravenous fluids.
Contributes to continuity of patient care by complying with established hospital and departmental policies.
Maintains documentation consistent with established guidelines to support patient care continuity.
Qualifications Minimum
High School Diploma/GED or work experience equivalent
1 to 3 years of experience as a Secretary or Unit Clerk in a healthcare setting required
Preferred
Associate's Degree in Nursing, Medical Science or equivalent
