Surgery Scheduler - Operating Room - Kings Hwy Under direct supervision of physicians, this job plans and prepares for patients of all ages. Coordinates, promotes and maintains agreements between hospitals based on the needs of the department. Maintains knowledge about surgeons' blocks and schedules patients appropriately based on surgeon, case length, and day of week.

Education

Required – High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred – Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program.

Certification

Preferred – PR Health Care Provider Certification.

Work Experience

Required – 2 Years of PSA or Medical Assistant experience.

Preferred – Experience in an ambulatory care setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.

Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally.

Strong interpersonal/customer service skills.

Ability to maintain a positive and professional demeanor under stressful conditions.

Cognitive skills and ability to interpret assessments to meet patient care needs and determine priorities among multiple demands.

Ability to exhibit responsibility for professional development and maintaining required clinical knowledge, training, and credentials.

Job Duties

Answers, returns, and documents department telephone calls with patients in a timely manner.

Assists in the daily operation of the department.

Schedules and reschedules patient appointments by phone or in person, including transferring patients to the appropriate departments for scheduling and updating necessary information.

Schedules surgeries and preauthorizations for IUDs and high-cost injections.

Provides daily census reports, including physician notification (as applicable).

Inputs call schedule and makes changes as needed.

Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions, and communication style.

Performs other duties as required.

Physical and Environmental Demands Medium work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work. Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid, and tissue. Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be an occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste in the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning, and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level for exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
