In this role, The Hoffman ModCenter Operator is responsible for the daily setup, operation, and basic programming of the ModCenter CNC machining system used to process electrical enclosures and panel components. This role focuses on safe, efficient machine operation, part handling, quality checks, and routine preventive maintenance to support production schedules.
Reports to: Panel Shop Supervisor
Responsibilities
Set up and operate the Hoffman ModCenter according to work orders, drawings, and standard procedures
Load and unload enclosures, back plates, and components safely and accurately
Prepare work pieces for downstream processing (deburring, inspection, etc.)
Install and verify tooling, fixtures, and material alignment
Identify nonconforming parts
Load ModCenter programs from the network
Convert standard measurements to metric measurements for program (1" = 25.4mm)
Verify correct program selection to match correct drawing layout and measurements
Make Basic program edits as needed within defined limits
Basic troubleshooting of ModCenter error faults and incorrect operation
Perform routine preventive maintenance on equipment
Operate forklift
Train lower-level team members as needed
Assist with Mechanical Assembly and wiring of panels as needed
Keep work area organized and materials properly staged
Other tasks/duties as defined by the supervisor
Requirements
Follow safety and ISO procedures
Physical capabilities, including sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, positioning, and securing up to 50 lbs. continuously for entire shift.
Use computers, email, and cell phones to communicate and manage timecards
Read/comprehend tape measure, blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, work orders, instructions, formulas, and processing charts
Operate, maintain, and work closely with various power equipment, including, but not limited to, forklifts, man-lifts, excavators, drills, saws, hydraulic tools, and automatic machinery
Proficient with the proper use of hand tools and power tools.
Work from various heights via platforms, scaffolds, ladders, or man-lifts
Minimum Educational Qualifications
High school or equivalent
Minimum Previous Experience
Experience operating industrial machinery
Ability to read and follow work instructions, drawings, and cut sheets
Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
Basic Computer skills for program loading and job tracking
Preferred Previous Experience
Experience operating a Hoffman ModCenter or similar machine equipment (such as CNC, Laser cutter, plasma cutter, router table, etc.)
Experience in an electrical panel shop or sheet‑metal environment
