JOB OVERVIEW The Operator, Drawing 1 is a medium‑skill role that will coordinate, set up, and operate drawing machines to produce various sizes of copper wire and aluminum from feeder stock. Key responsibilities include changing coils, bobbins, stems, and setting up the control panel for speed and foot.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent
Must read, write, and speak English; bilingual Spanish is a plus
Must be able to stand and lift heavy loads for long periods of time
Must be able to follow instructions
Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs
PRIMARY JOB TASKS
Make minor adjustments and repairs to machines
Set up control panel for speed and footage
Determine which type of rod to use (single input rod)
Responsible for making the proper string‑ups
Complete daily production reports
Collaborate with supervisor and peers through verbal instruction and reports
Sort and deposit scrap into designated bins
Perform any other assigned duties
CROSS‑TRAINING
Required to cross‑train on equipment within your workgroup
May be required to cover more complex jobs in absence or vacancy
Rotate on a set frequency within your workgroup to maintain skill proficiency
QUALITY
Use the company’s ISO Quality System documentation to guide daily quality activities
Do not release products until all quality checks have passed
Immediately report quality issues to supervisor or quality manager
SAFETY
Working safely is a condition of employment
Observe Southwire safety rules and maintain good housekeeping
Follow all safety procedures and rules
Properly wear all required PPE
Review Job Hazard Analyses for job sequence and hazards
Review Safety Data Sheets for assigned jobs
Maintain work areas to 5S standards
Perform pre‑operation safety inspection and hazard analysis
Follow all environmental rules/procedures and handle materials to minimize environmental impact
PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
Balance, climbing, fingering, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, standing, stooping, walking, sitting
Work in hot and cold environments typical of a prefabricated building without climate control
