Job Summary The Manual Grind Operator is responsible for the precision grinding of carbide tooling components using manual surface grinders. This role requires expertise in blueprint interpretation, tight tolerance control, and proficiency with precision measurement systems to ensure high‑quality carbide tools for manufacturing applications.

Key Responsibilities

Set up and operate manual surface grinders to grind carbide tooling components to exact specifications.

Interpret engineering blueprints and technical drawings for carbide tool geometry and tolerances.

Select and dress grinding wheels suitable for carbide materials.

Measure and inspect finished parts using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and other precision instruments.

Maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish requirements for carbide tooling.

Perform routine machine maintenance and ensure safe operation.

Document work performed and inspection results accurately.

Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work area.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in machining or grinding preferred.

Preferred 1 year of experience operating manual surface grinders, preferably in carbide tooling.

Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.

Proficient in using precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, height gauges).

Knowledge of imperial and metric measurement systems.

Understanding of grinding wheel selection, dressing, and machine set‑up for carbide materials.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Preferred Skills

Knowledge of carbide material properties and grinding techniques.

Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).

Basic understanding of lean manufacturing principles.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand for extended periods.

Lift up to 25lb as needed.

Manual dexterity and good hand‑eye coordination.
