Position Overview The Occupational Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for assisting the Occupational Health & Safety Manager with developing, implementing, and maintaining programs and systems that ensure the safety, health, and regulatory compliance of employees within a chemical manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for critical safety training, OH&S program auditing, risk assessment, safety committees, and the well‑being of employees.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Develop & deliver effective in‑person training on Work at Height, Confined Space Entry, Hot Work, LOTO, HAZWOPER, HAZCOM, and other OH&S topics.

Conduct safety meetings which engage participants and continuously improve our safety culture.

Audit Life Critical programs, contractor work, SDS database, and other OH&S activities.

Lead incident investigations and root‑cause investigations. Recommend and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence of incidents.

Assist with risk assessments and Pre‑Startup Safety Reviews.

Conduct emergency response drills (e.g. evacuations, severe weather, HAZWOPER). Critique drill and offer continuous improvement suggestions in written report. Participate in other activities to ensure site readiness for an emergency situation.

Recommend and procure PPE and other safety equipment/devices.

Coordinate industrial hygiene studies with consultant. Collaborate with operations team to ensure appropriate action is taken when data is available.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED and 3+ years of OH&S work experience, or

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field and 1+ year of related experience; alternatively, this position may be filled at a more senior level for the successful candidate meeting these basic qualifications: Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of related environmental experience.

Knowledge of applicable OSHA and DOT regulations.

Experience assisting in the development and implementation of health & safety programs.

Proven experience leading safety audits and inspections.

Background in incident investigation and root cause analysis.

Demonstrated ability to deliver effective training.

Preferred Experience

Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.

CSP, CIH, and/or CHMM preferred.

Experience with OHSAS 18001 or ISO 45001 preferred.
