The Engineering Technician - Dynamic Earth role is responsible for performing construction phase testing and inspections on ongoing construction projects, providing accurate notes and descriptions of all field activities, reporting to supervisors daily, and producing site inspection reports (SIRs), daily summary emails, and other project documentation.
Responsibilities
Conduct site visits, testing, and inspection services at construction job sites.
Conduct laboratory testing on soil samples, such as physical index properties, permeability and moisture-density relationships.
Assist geotechnical engineers with site investigation activities such as soil borings, test pit excavations, field permeability/percolation tests, and other supporting tasks.
Pickup and drop-off samples to laboratories.
Review and reference project documents including site-civil, structural, architectural plans, geotechnical reports, and topographic surveys.
Conduct structural steel and reinforcement inspections.
Perform footing subgrade inspections to review soil composition and bearing capacity and/or determine depth of overexcavation for unsuitable subgrade soils; oversee earthwork monitoring and compaction testing of structural fill material.
Communicate effectively and efficiently with contractors and project managers.
Maintain instruments in calibrated condition, collecting and reporting data to the manager, managing lab supply/inventory, and assisting in preparation of reports and presentations.
Ensure that safety policies and procedures are followed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or construction‑related field preferred.
0-4 years’ experience in construction inspection or laboratory testing.
Valid driver’s license.
Ability to maintain and operate personal and/or company vehicle.
Hands‑on experience with metric and English tools.
American Concrete Institute (ACI) concrete field‑testing technician certificate, accredited construction inspection/materials testing certificates, OSHA 40, OSHA 10, and/or American Portable Nuclear Gauge Association (APNGA) gauge training preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to understand general computer commands and learn supporting software for entering field data, laboratory data, timesheets, etc.
Independent and critical‑thinking abilities.
Self‑starter who can work independently and with team members.
Physical Demands
Occasionally required to stand, sit, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; use hands to finger, grasp, or feel objects; reach, push, pull, talk and hear; use repetitive motions.
Frequently required to lift and move up to 35 pounds, occasionally up to 75 pounds.
Requires visual acuity for preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, and visual inspections of site plans.
Work Environment
Field inspections/visits dictated by construction schedules, may include early morning or late evening timing at the project site.
Work both inside and outside environmental conditions.
Majority of the week is outdoors, often on uneven surfaces in all weather conditions and may expose to animals, insects, plants, etc.
Exposure to hazards such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, scaffolding, high places, high heat, chemicals.

The salary range for this position is $19–$26 per hour.
