Job Overview As a Sterile Processing Technician, you will decontaminate, assemble, inspect, wrap, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment for Surgical Services and all ancillary departments. You will work closely with the operating room (OR) staff to provide timely sterile products, trays, and case carts, maintaining a consistent and continuous workflow between the OR and Central Service Sterile Processing while practicing excellent customer service.

Qualifications Education
High School diploma or equivalent (GED, homeschool equivalency, partial or full post‑secondary education)
Formal education through a Sterile Processing program preferred
Experience
None required
Licenses and Certifications
Sterile Processing certification: CRCST or CSPDT
Skills and Abilities
Demonstrates skills and competencies necessary to safely perform assigned job, assessed through ongoing skill, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English necessary for essential functions.
Effectively communicates with patients, physicians, family members, and co‑workers with a customer‑service focus.
Independently demonstrates necessary skills through ongoing assessments.
Follows Universal Precautions and wears appropriate protective attire in the decontamination area.

Service Essential Functions
Performs decontamination and assembly of basic surgical trays, instrumentation, and equipment using established count sheets.
Provides timely sterile products, trays, and case carts in coordination with OR staff.
Sterilizes instruments and trays according to manufacturer instructions and institutional policies.
Organizes workload and assists colleagues to maintain continuous workflow between OR and Sterile Processing while practicing excellent customer service.
Quality/Safety Essential Functions
Utilizes appropriate cleaning detergents and agents by reviewing directions and SDS sheets.
Uses department equipment per manufacturer instructions and department protocols.
Ensures visual inspection of trays meets AAMI standards for patient use.
Finance Essential Functions
Self‑motivated to manage time effectively, prioritize daily tasks, and minimize incidental overtime.
Uses resources efficiently to ensure completeness of trays and instruments without waste.
Growth/Innovation Essential Functions
Understands and applies industry Sterile Processing standards (Steam, ETO, Low‑Temperature Hydrogen Peroxide).
Participates in department projects and Shared Governance committees, following up on action items.
Identifies learning needs, seeks continuing education, and updates My Development Plan regularly.
