As an Equipment Operator B in the Rothrock Forest District, you will play a vital role in the stewardship of Pennsylvania’s stunning forests. This seasonal opportunity allows you to showcase your skills in operating heavy‑duty equipment while maintaining district roads, trails, and facilities. You will collaborate with forest crew members to ensure public service, professional development, and career advancement.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this position, you will be responsible for a range of operations, including road maintenance, trail construction, and habitat restoration within Rothrock State Forest. You will navigate diverse terrains and varying weather conditions to ensure that all tasks are performed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. Your duties will also include conducting routine maintenance on District heavy equipment—daily, weekly, monthly, and annual checks. Furthermore, you will oversee the maintenance, repair, and construction of roads, facilities, and equipment within the State Forest.

Work Schedule and Additional Information

Seasonal full‑time employment. The season runs from approximately March 2026 through November 2026, at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment March 2027.

Work hours are 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Tuesday - Thursday; 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch.

Telework: This position offers no telework option.

Salary: Starting salary may be non‑negotiable in some cases.

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility Minimum Experience and Training Requirements

One year of experience as an Equipment Operator A; or

Two years of experience in the operation of heavy construction and specialized maintenance equipment used at this level with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more; or

Any equivalent combination of experience or training.

Special Requirements

You must possess a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver’s license.

Conditions of Employment

This position requires possession of a Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) and any endorsements required to operate specific equipment.

Other Requirements

You must meet the PA residency requirement.

You must be able to perform essential job functions.

A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.
