Job Summary Multi‑functional job requiring incumbents to be cross‑trained to perform Unit Secretary duties as well as at least one clinical support job 20% of the time. Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, the employee provides customer service, clerical and administrative services; monitors, orders, and stocks supplies; and maintains a safe work environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Clinical support duties may include monitoring cardiac waveforms, data collection, basic nursing procedures, treatment assistance, and equipment maintenance.

Provide effective customer service: respond to patients, family, and staff with kindness, courtesy, professionalism and efficiency; walk visitors to destinations; answer phones/intercoms in a friendly manner; participate in patient care rounding using AIDET.
Manage ordering, stocking and inventory of equipment and supplies in collaboration with the nurse manager: monitor supplies, order office and special supplies, monitor PAR levels, and maintain unit supply rooms.
Perform general reception and clerical duties at the nurse’s station: respond to patient calls via intercom or in person; provide administrative support such as data entry, meeting minutes, bulletin board updates, and downtime forms.
Coordinate maintenance of a safe, clean, and functional physical environment in accordance with regulatory standards (including cleaning equipment).
Perform one of the following clinical duties per unit policy: Patient Care Technician, Nursing Specialty Technician, Certified Nursing Assistant, or Monitor Technician – see respective job function descriptions for specific duties.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory/Management Responsibility This is a non‑management position that reports to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.
Minimum Requirements
Education – Unit Secretary training program or on‑the‑job training. Completion of a nursing assistant, patient care tech, or nursing fundamentals class preferred.
Experience – No experience required.
In Lieu Of In lieu of US training, 6 months of clerical or healthcare related experience or completion of a nursing fundamentals course is acceptable.
Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses
After hire, US/Monitor Techs must attend the formal arrhythmia training class and successfully complete the Prisma Health Arrhythmia exam with a minimum passing score within two attempts, completed within 30 days of hire.
Arrhythmia competencies must be maintained annually if selected for a monitor tech role.
