Educational Support Services Specialist, TRIO Upward Bound Programs
Join the University of Iowa’s TRIO Upward Bound team as an Educational Support Services Specialist! In this role, you’ll help high school students build college readiness and achieve academic success through engaging programming during the school year and summer months. This is a one-year specified term position.
In This Role, You Will Have The Opportunity To
Create, deliver, and evaluate lessons and activities for after-school student group meetings in the partner schools, using the TRIO pillars of program service (academic success, college preparation, career exploration, and personal development).
Conduct individual coaching meetings with students to check in and provide support and resources.
Hire, train, and coordinate undergraduate student tutors and the Upward Bound tutoring program.
Collaborate with partners to maximize resources and connections.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
1‑3 years of experience working with high school or college students in academic success, college preparation, career exploration, or personal development.
Occasional evening and weekend travel; one week of out‑of‑state travel with students in the summer.
Valid driver’s license and ability to meet the University’s driving policy requirements.
Competencies Required
Proficiency in communication (verbal and written) and relationship‑building skills that enable healthy working relationships and partnerships.
Counseling students to support their emotional, physical, occupational, and social development.
Communicating with students regarding academic performance objectives and providing feedback to improve performance.
Understanding decision‑making processes to analyze situations fully and accurately and reach productive decisions.
Maintaining accurate, timely, and confidential records and information.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience in counseling or advising college/university students in a higher‑education student support setting.
Knowledge of policies, procedures, regulations, and programming pertaining to college admissions, scholarships, financial aid, student services, alumni affairs, university relations, media, campus facilities, and academic degree programs.
Experience with verbal and written communication with Spanish‑speaking constituents.
Experience with assessment and evaluation methods to improve educational goals.
