Job Summary Gustavus Adolphus College seeks an enthusiastic and talented videographer and photographer to join our marketing team. The successful candidate will generate videos and photos from short clips to long‑form storytelling that conveys the Gustavus story in innovative, authentic, memorable, and captivating ways. This position is key to advancing the College’s communication and marketing objectives, including student enrollment, engaging alumni and donors, and amplifying the energy across campus.

Main Responsibilities

Produce, write, research, direct, shoot, and edit high‑quality video and photo content for a variety of platforms, including the College’s website, social media, and print materials.

Capture and edit compelling video and photo content for on‑campus events, ensuring alignment with brand guidelines and College vision.

Plan, set up, and manage video shoots, including lighting, audio, and camera equipment, ensuring all technical aspects are optimized.

Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot video and audio equipment.

Edit raw footage into polished, engaging videos, with an emphasis on high‑quality sound and lighting.

Regularly capture B‑roll footage to preserve the College’s visual history for use in various media.

Manage and organize all visual assets in SmugMug or other designated storage systems, ensuring easy access and proper archiving of photos, videos, and audio.

Maintain a high level of creativity in visual storytelling, staying up‑to‑date on industry trends and best practices in video production, photography, and editing.

Lead and collaborate with a student content team, providing guidance and hands‑on work experience in video production and photography.

Handle live streaming for events as needed, ensuring smooth production.

Manage multiple projects efficiently, meeting deadlines and working outside regular business hours and weekends when required.

Work onsite with flexibility to accommodate the needs of events on campus.

Prerequisites – Skills & Qualifications

Education/Training: Technically proficient in photo/video production with formal training or completion of an external program/educational degree in a related field.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years of paid industry experience in a similar role.

Photography: Strong skills in composition, lighting, and capturing high‑quality images in various environments.

Videography: Proven experience in shooting professional‑quality video content with focus on storytelling and creative direction.

Sound Production: Knowledge of audio engineering, microphone techniques, and sound design, including music integration.

Lighting: Expertise in lighting for both natural and staged environments.

Editing: Skilled in video editing, including adding closed captioning, graphics, special effects, animation, and on‑screen text.

Software Proficiency: Fluent in Final Cut, Adobe Premiere Pro, Audition, After Effects, Lightroom, Photoshop.

Technical Skills: Proficient with video editing software and strong understanding of camera operation, lighting, and audio equipment.

Social Media & Emotional Storytelling: Experience creating short‑form content (e.g., social media videos) and content that conveys emotional storytelling (1–3 minutes).

Motion Graphics & Visual Effects: Knowledge of motion graphics and visual effects techniques.

Live Streaming: Experience with live streaming for events.

Business Mindset: Understanding of how creative content is used and conveyed through photo/video with emphasis on brand and messaging.

Independence: Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage projects from start to finish.

Creative & Detail‑Oriented: A creative mindset with a keen eye for detail and visual aesthetics.

Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and partners.

Time Management: Ability to work under tight deadlines, manage multiple projects, and prioritize effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
