Job Summary We are looking for an experienced safety and health leader for a high-level project overseeing multiple construction projects across the Central United States (MO, KS, OK, TX). The role involves implementing and maintaining the company’s Loss Control Procedures, managing a safety, health, environmental, and security budget, and traveling approximately 75% of the time.
Key Responsibilities
Manage construction contractor safety and health program administration. Manage site safety, health, environmental, and security budgets. Implement, administer, and maintain the Drug and Alcohol Substance Abuse Program for a project. Develop and conduct employee safety and health training programs. Conduct site safety and health inspections and safety and health program audits. Ensure project safety and health documentation is complete and accurate. Conduct incident and injury/illness investigations. Write detailed investigation and safety and health progress reports.
Interface with clients and government officials.
Administer project worker's compensation programs and procedures. Assist in development, management, and implementation of project insurance programs and policies.
Manage project security contracts, programs, and policies. Develop, manage, and implement project environmental programs and policies.
Act as Safety and Health Consultant to internal and external clients; may act as emergency responder or incident commander.
Provide supervision, training, development, and performance management of direct reports. Support continuous improvement efforts and change management associated with the implementation of improvements.
Supervise Safety and Health Intern, Safety and Health Specialist 1, 2, and 3; Safety and Health Manager 1.
Act as a project manager, managing a project team whose composition may vary by project.
Minimum Qualifications
5+ years in a construction environment.
5+ years safety and health experience.
Must be able to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements, including criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to travel 75%.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Safety and health certification; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Knowledge of safety and health standards and practices, company substance abuse policies, construction contracting strategies, worker's compensation policies, insurance program administration, safety budgeting and cost control, environmental laws, security risk processes, and company safety and health consultation capabilities.
Ability to effectively interface with client and government officials.
Communication skills, emergency situation management, word processing and spreadsheet proficiency, report writing, human relations, conflict management.
Certifications
First Aid, CPR, Drug testing certified, computer, OSHA 500, Safety and Health Program Administration, OSHA 10 hour.
Work Environment / Physical Demands Physical Demands:
Lift and carry heavy items up to 50 pounds.
Stand, kneel, bend, stoop, move, and walk long distances in and around confined, cluttered places, and uneven areas.
See and hear naturally or with correction.
Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with requirements of the job duties.
Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls according to a set procedure.
Perform repetitive movement.
May work above 5 feet in height.
Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds.
Work up to a 12 hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions.
Work Environment:
Typical construction site environment.
Requires working in cramped work spaces and getting into awkward positions.
Requires working in very hot (above 90°F) or very cold (below 32°F) temperatures and exposure to inclement weather such as dust, wind, snow, rain, etc.
Requires working in extremely bright or low lighting conditions.
Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.
Work around hazardous equipment.
Typical office environment.
This position is considered a safety sensitive position.
