Description
Part‑Time (25–28 hours per week), Hybrid position – includes some in office and some work from home hours.
The Communications Specialist reports to the Director of Marketing & Communications and will primarily focus on developing, distributing, and analyzing the effectiveness of e‑newsletters and other digital communications. This role will support the marketing and communications needs of the council and will also be responsible for branding, media relations, public relations, and the development of content messaging that is consistent with the national brand/communication strategy contributing to GSNEO’s broader communication strategy and enhancing the organization’s visibility. Maintaining strict confidentiality, the specialist provides professional high‑quality business services in accordance with established duties.
Major Accountabilities
Salesforce Marketing Cloud expert, coordinating all council e‑news submissions, the council e‑news editorial calendar, e‑news insights and reporting, opt‑out reports, and email list filters.
Assists with media relations, including developing and submitting story pitches and press releases, repurposing story submissions across GSNEO communication channels, and maintaining an archive of published stories.
Monitors marketing email, including responding to customers and creating cases using council’s CRM platform (Salesforce).
Organizes all troop submitted photos and story submissions on SharePoint, for use in publications, social media, media pitches, and other marketing materials.
Conducts quarterly website audit on behalf of department and edits website content as needed.
Creates editorial content and proofreads others’ copy.
Assists with social media content, scheduling, and measurement.
Assists with council photography.
Other duties as assigned to promote the successful implementation of GSNEO goals and objectives.
Position Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related experience
Writing and proofreading skills
Ability to pay close attention to detail and maintain confidentiality
Advanced knowledge of Salesforce, e‑news platform, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and SharePoint. May need to know or be able to learn other software specific to GSUSA and GSNEO
General knowledge of design (Adobe Suite preferred but not required), experience with Canva
Ability to communicate with tact, diplomacy, and/or authority when necessary
Ability to work well as a part of a team
Excellent customer service skills
