Software Engineer – Booking Portfolio – Costco Travel
Costco IT is responsible for the technical future of Costco Wholesale, the third largest retailer in the world with wholesale operations in fourteen countries. This role is part of a dynamic, fast‑paced environment focused on transforming the retail experience.
Role Summary: As a Technical Lead for one or more teams, you will design, develop, and guide the implementation of in‑house travel booking web applications. You will coach team members, drive technical excellence, and ensure solutions are secure, scalable, and efficient.
Responsibilities
- Lead the technical design and development of in‑house travel booking web applications.
- Participate in scrum ceremonies (sprint planning, retrospectives, demos, stand‑ups, backlog refinement).
- Apply test‑driven development (TDD) practices to detect and resolve defects early.
- Estimate, plan, and manage implementation tasks and report on development progress.
- Ensure solutions are secure, durable, scalable, flexible, and accessible; proactively mitigate potential production issues.
- Perform code reviews and enforce coding guidelines and best practices.
- Facilitate team meetings to socialize technical ideas and promote a culture of technical excellence.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to team members, sharing knowledge through documentation, workshops, and operational efficiencies.
- Escalate technical challenges with options and recommendations when necessary.
Required
- 7+ years’ experience with the design and development of client/server and/or web‑based applications.
- 5+ years’ experience with core Java, Java EE technologies (Servlet and JSP).
- 5+ years’ experience working with relational databases (preferably MS‑SQL Server and T‑SQL).
- Good understanding and experience with SOAP and/or REST based Web services.
- Demonstrated track record of delivering high‑quality software design and implementation to production.
- Quick learner able to adopt new technologies and concepts.
- Self‐motivated, dedicated, and able to shift focus with changing priorities.
- Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, analytical, and problem‐solving skills.
Recommended
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in payment processing domain.
- Passion for teamwork and continuous improvement.
- Experience working in a Scrum/Agile environment.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Knowledge of the travel industry.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Workspace applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).

Pay Range: $130,000 – $160,000 per year.
