Job Description Salary: $48,000 - $70,000 DOE Job Title: Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) and/or Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Specialist Location: Burnsville, NC Salary: $48,000 $70,000/year (depending on experience and credentials) Employment Type: Full-Time | On-Site | 20252026 School Year
Position Overview: Schoolhouse Staffing is seeking a compassionate and skilled Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) and/or Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Specialist to support a kindergarten students in Burnsville, North Carolina for the 20252026 school year. Ideally, we are looking for a professional who can fill both roles (TVI and O&M), though we are open to candidates who specialize in one. This is a fully in-person position due to the students age and developmental needs, and services will take place within a school setting. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a lasting impact on a student who began receiving vision services in March 2025 and is continuing to build foundational mobility and learning skills. Key Responsibilities: As TVI: Provide individualized instruction based on the Expanded Core Curriculum for students with visual impairments Adapt general education materials and collaborate with classroom teachers Monitor and document progress toward IEP goals Support the use of assistive technology and low-vision tools Participate in IEP meetings and collaborate with school staff and families As O&M Specialist: Teach safe and independent navigation skills in the school and community Develop and implement O&M assessments and individualized plans Train the student in spatial awareness, sensory efficiency, and orientation skills Ensure progress tracking and communication with the IEP team Qualifications: Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education, Visual Impairment, Orientation & Mobility, or related field North Carolina licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired and/or O&M Specialist Experience working with early elementary-aged students preferred Strong collaboration, communication, and adaptability skills Must be able to provide in-person services Compensation & Benefits: Salary: $48,000 $70,000/year (based on experience and certifications) Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance Weekly Direct Deposit Professional Development Support Dedicated Relationship Manager Mileage Reimbursement (if applicable for travel between schools)
