Media Engineering is an innovative organization that is passionate about providing the best possible video playback experience, art, and metadata to customers worldwide, powered by exceptional technology. This work requires streamlining and repurposing technology across different business and distribution channels including streaming, linear, and theatrical so that technology can ebb and flow across the needs of the business.
The Integration Platform team is responsible for ingesting, processing, and distributing the metadata from one system/product to another system/product for linear broadcast, VOD and streaming platform workflows. We process content metadata data sets such as titles, schedules, contracts, rights, work orders, commercial registrations, marketing promos & campaigns, QC status, playlists, and other data sets. We work closely with other Media Engineering teams, Ad Platforms, Content Platforms, Platform Engineering, and external partners & vendors to build APIs, workflows, and frontends for our media supply chains. We are actively working on unification of linear broadcast & VOD workflows, and this presents an excellent opportunity for candidates to learn & grow and make lasting impact on Disney's linear & streaming platforms success.
Responsibilities:
Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain Java, Spring Boot, and Kafka services which integrate with various media supply chain systems and backends.
Provide on-call support for critical services on a rotational basis.
Own & deliver projects & large complex features of the workflows.
Perform code reviews, architectural reviews and propose best practices for driving efficiencies in software development.
Collaborate with internal teams & external partners, including product, program, and software engineering teams.
Help define engineering standards and provide technical mentorship to the team.
Improve observability for end-to-end workflows using monitoring, logging, and alerting technologies.
Drive improvements for our continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines.
Modernize existing workflows using latest technologies.
Perform code reviews and propose best practices for driving efficiencies in software development.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in computer science, closely related field or equivalent experience.
5+ years of experience in the software engineering field, with a focus on designing and developing workflows which are highly available, fault tolerant, and distributed in nature.
Strong knowledge of API and Event Driven Architectures.
Strong experience in promoting best practices for code development.
Proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, Python, Kafka, SQL, NOSQL, and AWS Cloud technologies.
Strong knowledge of data specifications, XML, JSON, REST, and GraphQL.
Strong knowledge in automation, continuous integration & continuous deployment.
Must be able to work with a geographically dispersed team.
Great communication and collaboration skills and a strong work ethic.
Ability to thrive in a dynamic, collaborative, and fast paced environment.
Strong interpersonal skills as well as strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Attention to details, experience delivering high-quality software solutions on time, at scale and within budget.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in computer science or related technical discipline is highly desirable.
Previous work experience in media platforms, products, and workflows.
Experience in widely used Web frameworks (Spring Boot, React.js, etc.).
Experience working with distributed messaging technologies (Kafka, Kinesis, etc.).
Strong curiosity about how Disney delivers the Magic and a desire to be a part of it.
The hiring range for this position in Glendale, CA is $138,900.00 to $186,200.00 per year, in San Francisco, CA is $152,100.00 to $203,900.00 per year, and in New York, NY is $145,400.00 to $195,000.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the candidates geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
