Waterford Public Schools has a vacancy for a team-oriented individual. Waterford Public Schools is seeking a Head Football Coach at Waterford High School effective for the 2026-27 school year.
Waterford Public Schools serves approximately 2,400 students in grades PK-12. The District’s facilities include three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Leadership
Develop and implement a vision for the football program aligned with the school’s mission. Oversee and coordinate all levels of the football program. Collaborate with youth football coaches to establish a pipeline for player development. Player Development
Teach the fundamentals of football while emphasizing player safety and sportsmanship. Develop and execute practice plans to enhance skills, teamwork, and competitive readiness. Promote the academic success of student-athletes and monitor their progress. Game Preparation and Strategy
Develop game strategies to maximize team performance. Analyze game outcomes and adjust tactics as necessary to improve future performance. Administrative Responsibilities
Maintain accurate records of player eligibility, physicals, and required paperwork. Ensure compliance with CIAC regulations and school policies. Coordinate team and equipment management with the Athletic Director. Community Engagement
Build positive relationships with players, parents, staff, and the community. Actively promote the football program through social media, events, and local outreach. Serve as a role model for sportsmanship and leadership. Staff Management
Recruit, train, and mentor assistant coaches. Foster a collaborative and supportive coaching environment. Qualifications
Education / Qualifications: Required:
CT Coaching Certification, Valid Connecticut coaching certification or the ability to obtain one, Current CPR, First Aid, and Concussion Management certifications, Extensive knowledge of football strategies, techniques, and safety protocols. Preferred: Previous head coaching experience or significant assistant coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level. Strong leadership and communication skills. Experience managing budgets and coordinating team logistics. Ability to build relationships with students, staff, and the broader community. Stipend per WFCT agreement.
