Department Overview
Endoscopy nurses provide care to patients across the age continuum who need diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy procedures. The endoscopy nurse assists the provider team during endoscopic procedures; provide patient care before, during, and after the procedure; performs procedural sedation; and provides education to patients about treatment.
The department is open Monday – Friday 0700 — 1730 with mandatory call on service Monday through Friday 1730 — 0700 and all day on Saturday, Sunday, and holidays.

Function/Duties of Position
Requires ability to meet mandatory call response time of arriving to work
within 30 min of being called
Requires the ability to ride the aerial tram throughout the day
Push patient in a stretcher to and from procedure throughout the shift
Work in a dimly lit procedure room
Work in a fluoroscopy procedure room
Stand for long periods of time while wearing lead garments
Move, turn, or lift patients using provided safe patient mobilization devices and techniques
Requires the ability to
Adapt to assignment change throughout the shift to meet the needs of patient care and unit operations
Work in a fast-paced environment in multiple units throughout OHSU Hospital, Center of Health and Healing CHH1 and CHH2.
Annual hands-on competencies determined by unit need, regulatory requirements, and other evidence based factors (i.e. moderate sedation administration and monitoring, peripheral IV insertion, motility and PH testing, telephone triage, procedural patient care, etc.
Required Qualifications
Two years experience working in an endoscopy procedural area setting
BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date.
ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date.
Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
BLS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
BLS must not expire during orientation
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
Preferred Qualifications
Experience performing moderate sedation preferred
Experience performing motility and PH testing procedures preferred
Experience with gastrointestinal surgery or gastroenterology diseases care associated with them preferred
Additional Details Length of Orientation – Experienced Nurse
External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.
