GIS Specialist – Utility Mapping & Data
Location: 100% Remote (U.S.)
Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt
Department: Utility Services
Reports To: GIS or Program Management Leadership
Pay Range: $29/hour - $38/hour DOE
Position Summary The GIS Specialist – Utility Mapping & Data supports mapping, data maintenance, validation, and automation activities for electric utility asset systems. This role is responsible for helping maintain accurate, complete, and reliable spatial and attribute data that supports utility planning, operations, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
The GIS Specialist works closely with program managers, data managers, quality teams, and field validation resources to support data remediation efforts, ingestion workflows, and ongoing system improvements in a regulated utility environment.
Key Responsibilities GIS Mapping & Data Maintenance
Perform GIS editing and data remediation for electric utility assets
Update and maintain spatial and attribute data in accordance with defined standards and workflows
Support data cleanup initiatives to improve overall asset data quality and confidence
Data Validation & Ingestion Support
Support validation workflows for field-collected, legacy, or third-party data
Assist with data ingestion into GIS and related systems of record
Identify data gaps, inconsistencies, and errors and coordinate resolution with cross-functional teams
Automation & Reporting Support
Assist with GIS automation and data processing tasks to improve workflow efficiency
Support development of maps, reports, and data outputs for program and quality reporting
Help maintain standardized GIS templates, tools, and documentation
Collaboration & Quality Support
Coordinate with quality, process, and program teams to support QA/QC activities
Participate in data reviews to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with requirements
Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to enhance GIS workflows and data quality
Required Qualifications Education
Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Geospatial Science, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
Experience
3–5 years of professional GIS experience
Experience supporting mapping, data maintenance, or asset data workflows
Skills & Competencies
Proficiency with enterprise GIS platforms and spatial data editing
Strong attention to detail and commitment to data quality
Ability to follow defined processes and documentation
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Experience
Experience supporting electric utility GIS or asset management systems
Familiarity with regulated or compliance-driven environments
The salary range for this position is provided in good faith and is subject to variation based on geographic location, candidate experience, and market conditions. Final compensation will be determined after a comprehensive evaluation of the candidate’s qualifications and alignment with the role.
