Many of our projects are inspired by the legacy of modern and mid-century modern residential architecture, and we strive to incorporate environmentally sensitive design into all our projects. KA (Koch Architects) is a full-service residentially focused architecture & interior design firm with experience and expertise in both new builds, and large-scale renovations. We see ourselves as a passionate group of visual thinkers who care deeply about creating well‑crafted, authentic designs. Each project is thoughtfully guided from an initial concept through all stages of design, development of documents, and construction. Our office is located in West Berkeley; the culture is casual, friendly, and collaborative, while the work is rigorous in quality and detail.

This is a full-time, on-site position for candidates with a minimum of 7‑10 years of experience in an architectural firm, and ideally 5 years of custom residential experience.

Responsibilities

Hands‑on guiding of projects and team members from schematics through construction administration

Working with the Principal and team members to prepare 2D and 3D design documents (Vectorworks, Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp modeling, hand drawing)

Creating, editing, and overseeing the production of construction drawing sets

Project correspondence, schedule, and budget

Code research (planning and building)

Research and specify materials and systems

Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master’s degree from an accredited US architecture school

CA Licensure preferred

Advanced communication skills and a track record for success with client interaction and team leadership – we are seeking people comfortable with presenting to and communicating with clients.

Leading the creative team of designers and the documentation process of several complex high‑end residential projects.

Candidate is self‑motivated – able to work independently, with a team, and with the principal.

Leading the coordination of work with consultants & contractors, including references who will speak to this ability

Construction Administration experience on job sites

Knowledge of CBC (California Building Code)
