Energy Conversion Systems (ECS) at General Motors is a fast-paced team that is working on developing propulsion technology. This role is within the Electrical & Chemical Energy Conversion Hardware organization. We are creating leading-edge propulsion management hardware (fuel delivery, exhaust emission, engine boosting, transmission shift controls, power electronics, and battery safety hardware) that provide industry leading performance and customer value for current and future GM Vehicles.

The Role We are seeking highly motivated, forward thinking, innovative, high performing people leaders with a balance of strategic and tactical skills to join this dynamic environment and help move us forward to achieve GM’s Zero, Zero, Zero vision. This position is for a first-level people leader (Engineering Group Manager) and you would lead a team responsible for hardware design and release within ECS.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

Provide leadership to ensure excellence in all aspects of GM and supplier engineering:

Functional, performance and safety requirements are met, Quality, reliability, durability and serviceability targets are met

Engineering deliverables occur on time & with quality

Develop industry leading hardware execution efficiency

Recruit, attract and hire industry leading talent

Train, develop, coach, and mentor employees

Provide clear line of sight from organizational objectives to individual contributions; direct and prioritize work accordingly

Create an environment that fosters a positive and inclusive culture and encourages individuals to achieve their peak performance and engagement

Strive to create a workplace of choice, where employees are excited to work, and the customer is at the center of everything we do

Some domestic and international travel, about 5%

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering

7+ years of engineering experience in all phases of product development from initiation to launch

Knowledge of GM engineering processes, tools, and vehicle / propulsion development processes

Working knowledge of ICE propulsion, electric propulsion, or HV battery systems

Experience leading projects and people (directly or indirectly), with highly developed interpersonal and communication skills

Demonstrated organization and planning capability, with the ability to quickly identify and remove roadblocks and elevate as appropriate

Excellent conflict resolution skills, with proven capability to balance technical and business needs

Strong collaboration skills and enterprise business acumen

Demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguity and support timely decision making

Ability to manage multiple assignments with a high level of composure and proven results

DFSS black belt

Ability to travel domestically and internationally
