Work Schedule

This position is for the fall and spring academic terms only when the library is open, and excludes all “breaks” and winter/summer terms or sessions. No work is scheduled for the winter session or for the almost four month summer term.

Scheduled hours for this position for fall and spring will be:

Sundays 7:00 pm to 11:15 pm

Mondays 7:00 pm to 11:15 pm

Tuesdays 4:30 pm to 11:15 pm

Position Summary Information

Position Summary

Monitors the activity and environment of the library building; making hourly rounds of the entire building to routinely canvas the library and monitor students, computers, printers, and notice security or facility problems and communicate any issues to appropriate personnel;. The position will also close the building and report any issues to campus police and Manager of Library Operations; enforce library rules and policies; and may need to assist library users with basic circulation services. This position is one of three Library Clerks, who together provide coverage during the evening and weekend hours, and provide backup coverage for one another during infrequent absences. Additional mandatory hours and days are expected to be worked (evenings, and/or weekends) during the week before, and the week of, fall and spring academic finals, when the library stays open until midnight, and there is a definite increase in the number of library users. Work hours and days for this two-week period will be assigned at least two weeks prior.

Minimum Qualifications

A successful campus interview and ability to pass a criminal background check are also required.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous work experience in a library setting; supervisory experience; demonstrated solid computer literacy and previous experience using MS Office Suite; prior customer service experience; and experience working with diverse populations.

Excellent verbal/written communication skills desirable.
