Under general supervision, supports the daily activity of the Recreation Center youth and teen programs. This position must work well in a group setting and with the public, while providing excellent, respectful customer service and human relation skills, which support the City of Fort Lupton’s mission and values. Under the direction of the Assistant Recreation Director.
Develops and implements youth and teen programs, designing such programs to best serve the changing needs of participants, keeping safety and active supervision a priority.
Provides hands on, direct supervision of youth and teen programming alongside part-time staff and volunteers. Hires, trains, schedules, supervises and evaluates part-time youth and teen programs personnel.
Develops positive, professional, and mentoring relationships with youth and teens who are engaged in classes, programs, and as volunteers in the community.
Delivers prompt and professional solutions to both external and internal customer inquiries through face-to-face, phone, and email interactions, striving to provide quality service through the development of relationships with program participants, community members, City employees, and numerous partner organizations.
Works closely with Recreation staff and upper management to ensure there is consistency and accuracy in how policies and standard operating procedures are being implemented. Identifies areas of potential conflict and proactively addresses participant or staff concerns.
Serves as staff liaison to the City of Fort Lupton Youth Advisory Committee, aiding in the facilitation of meetings, development and implementation of events and volunteer opportunities, creation of agendas and minutes, and through the provision of general support and leadership.
Effectively utilizes recreation management software, ActiveNet, for youth and teen program operations including account management, program registrations, and other registration or reporting functions.
Develops professional relationships and partnerships with local schools, municipalities, non-profit organizations, and other community organizations which serve the youth and teen population.
Ensures compliance with all state licensing requirements.
May perform duties of day camp director, preschool director.
Assists with planning activities and outings for summer camp, assists with planning and conducting staff training, assists with job interviews and hiring of day camp staff.
Supervises the drop-in child care program of the recreation center, including staff hiring, training and supervision.
Review, schedule, and approve general interest program requests.
Drives a passenger van as required.
Performs other responsibilities as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of State licensing Rules and Regulations for Child Care Centers and School Age Child Care.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation, education, youth development or other related field and 3 years previous experience in customer service and youth and/ or teen programming; or equivalent combination of experience and education.
CPR/AED/First Aid certification, or obtainable within 6 months from date of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bilingual preferred.
Prior experience managing, helping lead, and/ or serving on a board or commission preferred.
