POSITION SUMMARY
The Security Guard is responsible for ensuring the safety of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina’s employees, volunteers, visitors, and security of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina’s facilities. This position conducts regular patrols, maintains a visible presence to deter incidents, and delivers professional, customer-focused service to all who visit our organization. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide courteous and professional customer service while carrying out security-related procedures and site-specific policies to ensure a safe and welcoming environment. (80%) Respond calmly and effectively to incidents, emergencies, or other critical situations, using sound judgment and problem‑solving skills. Conduct regular and random patrols of the facility, warehouse, parking areas, and perimeter to deter unauthorized activity and identify any safety or security concerns. Monitor access points and verify the identification of individuals entering or exiting the premises in accordance with Food Bank protocols. Complete accurate and detailed reports of daily activities, observations, and any incidents or safety concerns that occur during the shift. Communicate and cooperate with law enforcement, emergency responders, and Food Bank leadership as needed, following established procedures. Maintain constant awareness of surroundings and demonstrate a visible, professional presence throughout the assigned post to promote safety and deter potential security risks. Support a safe workplace by identifying and reporting safety hazards, facility maintenance issues, or unsafe behaviors to appropriate staff or supervisors. Assist in emergency preparedness and response, including fire drills, evacuations, severe weather procedures, and first aid/CPR. Provide guidance and support to visitors, volunteers, and clients, offering directions or assistance as needed while ensuring compliance with site policies. Monitor security cameras and alarm systems (if applicable) and promptly report irregularities or malfunctions. Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to maintain a secure and respectful environment. Control vehicle traffic and parking during busy periods, deliveries, or volunteer events to ensure safety and efficient flow. Protect organizational assets by monitoring and reporting potential theft, loss, or misuse of Food Bank property or resources. Perform any other tasks or duties as directed (20%). MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent required. Must have clean criminal background, driving history, and be able to pass a drug test. 5 years of experience required. Must be able to pass basic math test and food safety training. Possess basic security credentials and life safety skills (CPR, AED, first aid) and be able to learn and administer Everbridge safety event management. Demonstrated ability to work with employees and volunteers at our facilities and/or events is required. Abilityto demonstrate initiative and strong time‑management skills and perform with little supervision are required. Outstanding interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrated experience in building work teams are required. Must be a team player. Display exemplary customer service with all internal and external contacts (staff, partners, donors, volunteers, general public, etc.) in order to promote the Food Bank’s mission. General warehouse, outdoor, truck, and office environments, including refrigerator, produce cooler, and freezer. The employee will be required to interact with Food Bank personnel in the warehouse(s). In doing so, the employee will occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts, powered equipment, and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. The employee will be exposed to temperatures ranging from -10 degrees Fahrenheit to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb, balance, and to stoop, crouch or crawl. While performing the responsibilities of the job, these work environment characteristics are representative of the environment the job holder will encounter.
