Position Overview The Asphalt Plant Operator is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the asphalt plant to ensure safe, efficient, and high‑quality production. This role involves monitoring plant systems, coordinating material flow, performing adjustments, and maintaining equipment to meet production goals and specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Operate and monitor plant controls to regulate material flow and asphalt production.
Ensure production meets required quality standards and specifications.
Perform routine inspections and maintenance on plant equipment.
Troubleshoot and resolve operational or mechanical issues as they arise.
Maintain accurate production and maintenance records.
Coordinate with loader operators, truck drivers, and quality control personnel to meet daily schedules.
Enforce and follow all company, environmental and safety regulations.
Assist with general plant housekeeping and upkeep.
Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Education / Experience
High school diploma or General Education Development (GED). Preferred.
2‑3 years of previous related experience.
Knowledge / Skill Requirements
Previous knowledge of heavy equipment preferred.
Work Requirements
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Must pass pre‑employment physical, drug screen, and criminal background check.
Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co‑workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Required PPE may include face shield, safety shoes (hard toe), and coveralls.
Compliance with all OSHA and/or MSHA regulations.
Physical Requirements
Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear.
Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.
Able to work in all weather conditions.
The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands.
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend and reach with hand and arms above their shoulders.
Must be able to exert up to 10‑20 lbs. constantly to move objects, 25‑50 lbs. of force frequently, and 50‑100 lbs. of force occasionally.
Work Environment
Ability to work in all weather conditions.
May be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
May be exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock or burn.
Noisy areas may have moderate to loud noise levels.
