About the Company Ruston Paving is a commercial and industrial paving construction contractor with offices in New York, Virginia, and North Carolina. Established in 1943, we are a family-oriented company that has been in business for three generations. Our company is capable of all types of asphalt paving projects ranging from minor repairs to larger projects incorporating asphalt reclamation and recycling, as well as new construction.

General Summary of the Position Teamwork is a major part of every position at Ruston Paving, so it is important to note that, aside from all other listed responsibilities, you must be willing to assist others and be as productive as possible. The asphalt paving equipment operator safely operates a variety of motorized equipment used in the preparation, repair, reconstruction, and construction of site work and asphalt paving projects. The operator must perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in accordance with the essential functions of the position.

Essential Functions

Operates construction and power equipment such as excavator, grader, bulldozer, backhoe, loader, skid steer, asphalt paver, rollers, reclaimer, stabilizer, milling machine.

Works with grading or paving crews to remove or install stone, dirt, asphalt pavement or storm water systems, and may assist ground personnel with hand tools.

Operates jackhammers, saws, and other small equipment as required.

Performs routine maintenance and emergency repairs, reports mechanical problems for shop repairs, cleans equipment.

Ensures heavy equipment is safely stored.

Assists in installation and maintenance of traffic control devices.

Performs duties in conformance with safety, security, and company policies.

Performs pre- and post-trip inspections of vehicles, equipment, trailers.

Follows safety and incident reporting procedures.

All other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Any combination of education and work experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform the work.

Heavy equipment operators must have minimum 2 years experience.

Site excavation and/or paving experience required.

Valid in-state driver's license preferred.

Additional Requirements and Benefits

Shifts start and end at local division office/shop; transportation to job site provided.

Laundered uniforms and PPE provided; used per policy.

Out of town overnight stays may occur; per diem offered.

Double time pay for weekend work.

Employee may be sent to other facility locations to perform duties.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Regular sitting, hand use, reaching, talking, hearing; noise level loud.

Occasional standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, crouching.

May lift up to 60 lbs occasional.

Vision: close, distance, peripheral, depth, focus adjustment.

Quick arm and leg movement required.

Excellent stamina required.

Must work independently; maintain schedule; stress may increase.
