Equipment Operator I hiring range:
$22.68 – $31.19 per hour, DOQ
Public Works Maintenance Worker (Streets)
Perform construction, repair, and maintenance, including concrete and asphalt work, of City streets, sidewalks, curbs, and drainage systems.
Patch holes, compact road surfaces, maintain drainage systems, install/repair/cut pipe, construct/repair ditches, clear drainage obstructions, break up pipes and concrete, mix cement, install fences.
Excavate and grade sites, dig holes/trenches and shovel/spread/level materials (dirt, sand, gravel and base, concrete, asphalt, etc.).
Operate a variety of tools, equipment, and vehicles for road maintenance and repair tasks.
Assist with traffic control, marker, cone, and signage installation, and roadway safety measures.
Respond to emergency situations such as storm clean‑up and hazardous roadway conditions.
Work as part of a team to keep the City running smoothly and looking great!
Equipment Operator I
Operates various equipment and vehicles to complete tasks related to the maintenance, upkeep, installation, and construction of City grounds, property, utilities, rights‑of‑way, and other infrastructure for departmental operations; drives vehicles over public roads, work sites, rights‑of‑way, parks, public works facilities, and other City property; maneuvers in and around traffic, parked cars, equipment, utilities, and other obstacles; obeys all traffic laws and safety guidelines; monitors immediate environment and work area to ensure the safety of operator, other workers, the equipment, and the public; drives single, tandem, and tri‑axle dump trucks or brush trucks in order to transport and haul materials between original and final destinations for use in maintenance and construction projects.
Performs manual work functions associated with construction, maintenance and repair projects, which may include repairing roads/asphalt, compacting road surfaces, installing/repairing pipe, constructing/repairing ditches, repairing/replacing drainage culverts, repairing potholes, constructing sidewalks, cutting pipes, installing fences, installing/repairing irrigation systems, mowing right‑of‑ways, cutting trees and brush, groundskeeping, maintaining athletic fields, assembling playground equipment, digging holes or trenches, shoveling materials, lifting/moving heavy materials, flagging traffic, and picking up debris/litter.
Assists with traffic control at road construction sites by setting up road signs, flagging and directing traffic, and assisting other equipment operators in maneuvering equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
One year of training and/or experience in the operation of equipment used in roadway repair, maintenance and installation is required for the Equipment Operator I. Previous experience in construction and maintenance of public infrastructure is preferred for the Public Works Maintenance Worker (Streets).
Valid Driver's License. The Equipment Operator I incumbent must possess and maintain a valid Class A commercial driver’s license. The Public Works Maintenance Worker (Streets) must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) including appropriate endorsement(s) within six months of hire.
This position will require working in emergency situations (i.e., snow removal, storms, etc.).
Any individual selected for this position will be required to undergo a post‑offer, pre‑employment criminal background check, driving record check, education/employer verification, along with a physical and drug screen.
